Minister of Social Affairs and Labor Mukhtar al-Yafei discussed monday with the representative of the United Nations Population Fund to Yemen Francesco Galitieri and the official in charge of the Gender-Based Violence Program Amira Muhna ways to enhance cooperation and develop humanitarian and development programs in the country.
During the meeting, Minister al-Yafei reviewed the government's orientations to enhance partnership with international organizations and integrate roles in the fields of humanitarian work and development, which contributes to improving the efficiency of interventions, expanding their geographical scope, and reaching the most needy groups.
The two sides also discussed efforts to move from emergency response to more sustainable paths based on economic empowerment, capacity building and developing institutional work mechanisms.
Minister al-Yafei appreciated the role played by the Fund in providing humanitarian support, expressing his aspiration to expand the scope of his interventions to include a greater number of governorates, which will contribute to improving the level of response to growing needs, in addition to creating and expanding safe spaces and enhancing efforts aimed at serving humanity.
He stressed the importance of building capacities and addressing sensitive societal issues.
He touched on the Ministry's directions in linking social affairs and labor programs in an integrated manner, and developing digital transformation projects in a way that contributes to achieving sustainability.
He reaffirmed the government's commitment to providing a safe and neutral environment for the work of international organizations, which enhances the efficiency and continuity of humanitarian interventions and ensures that they reach those who deserve them without discrimination.
He reaffirmed efforts made to facilitate procedures and provide the necessary facilities to organizations working in the humanitarian and development fields, enabling them to implement their programs efficiently and effectively.
For his part, the UN official reviewed the Fund's most prominent interventions, especially those targeting the most vulnerable women.
He addressed existing challenges and opportunities to enhance joint action.
He reiterated the Fund's keenness to support sustainable development efforts, empower women economically, provide safe spaces, and support women to manage their own projects, in addition to developing the Fund's programs in a way that meets the needs of society and contributes to achieving a tangible impact in the long term.
