The government of Yemen has strongly condemned the terrorist attack carried out by the Iran-backed Houthi militia against Makha Port in Taiz Governorate, using drones and missiles, in a blatant assault on a vital civilian and economic facility.

The attack once again exposes the militia’s criminal nature and its disregard for the lives and interests of Yemenis and their national assets.

In a statement issued by the Cabinet, the government said the attack comes as part of a systematic pattern by the Houthi militia of targeting ports, vital facilities, infrastructure and economic sectors, while continuing to promote false claims about what it describes as a “blockade” imposed on the Yemeni people.

The statement noted that the contradiction can no longer be ignored: the same militia that invokes the blockade is itself targeting Yemen’s ports, striking its vital facilities, attacking its infrastructure, undermining the country’s national resources, disrupting commercial and economic activity, and cutting off lifelines to millions of Yemenis.

This, it said, confirms that the suffering of the Yemeni people is merely a tool exploited by the militia for propaganda and political blackmail.

The government stressed that targeting Makha Port and other vital facilities and infrastructure constitutes an attack on the state, society, and national economy.

It said the assault is part of an Iranian-backed project aimed at keeping Yemen trapped in a cycle of chaos and destruction and exploiting its territory, ports, and maritime routes to threaten regional and international security.

The government warned that the targeting of Makha Port represents a highly dangerous escalation and demonstrates that the threat posed by the Houthi militia is no longer confined to Yemen, but has become a direct threat to regional and international security and stability, as well as freedom of navigation and trade in the Red Sea.

The government held the Houthi militia fully responsible for the attack and its consequences.

It also held the Iranian regime responsible for its continued provision of weapons, expertise, and military technology that enable the militia to carry out such attacks and target civilian facilities, ports, and international maritime traffic.

The government affirmed that it would assume its full national and constitutional responsibilities to protect vital facilities, ports, and national assets, and would not allow any terrorist militia or external party to use Yemeni territory, institutions, or resources to harm the Yemeni people or threaten regional security and international interests.

It further stated that it would continue to take all necessary measures to protect economic and public-service facilities and secure the movement of trade and essential supplies, in coordination with regional allies and international partners.

The government renewed its assertion that Yemen will not become a permanent platform for the Iranian project to threaten the region and the world. It called on the international community to move beyond statements of condemnation and concern toward practical and deterrent action against the Houthi militia and its backers, including cutting off its sources of funding and arms and holding it accountable for targeting civilian facilities and ports and threatening international maritime navigation.

The government stressed that the path to peace in Yemen does not lie in rewarding terrorism or tolerating armed militias, but rather in ending the causes of escalation and enabling the legitimate state institutions to extend their authority across the entire national territory and restore the state’s monopoly over arms.

This, it said, is essential to ensuring Yemen’s security and stability, protecting the interests of Yemen, the region, and the international community, and safeguarding freedom of navigation in the Red Sea.
