The Ministry of Transport strongly condemned the attempt by Iran-backed Houthi terrorist militias to target an oil tanker that was anchored at al-Mokha Port on the Red Sea on Friday evening, 7/8/2026/, using a booby-trapped boat.

This is a new attack that threatens maritime safety, vital facilities and poses a direct danger to workers in the maritime sector and the marine environment.

The Ministry reported in a statement learned by the Yemen News Agency (Saba) that naval patrols of the National Resistance spotted a boat approaching the coast near the al-Mokha Power Plant at the same time the oil tanker was anchored at the port, fortunately the competent authorities took the necessary measures to deal with the threat and detonated the boat before it reached the restricted area within al-Mokha Port.

The Ministry stressed that such hostile acts pose a serious threat to the security and safety of maritime navigation in the Red Sea, putting commercial and oil ships and their crews at risk. They also highlighted the potential severe environmental damage, especially if ships carrying oil derivatives or hazardous materials are targeted, which could lead to oil spills and pollution of water, beaches and marine life.

The Ministry of Transport also reminded that protecting waterways and coasts and preserving the marine environment is a shared national and humanitarian responsibility.

The Ministry called on the international community and international maritime organizations to take a clear and firm stance against these attacks and to work on ensuring freedom of navigation, securing commercial ships and protecting the marine environment in the Red Sea.
