[16/04/2026 01:28]

WASHINGTON - SABA
The Minister of Planning and International Cooperation, Governor of Yemen at the World Bank (WB)Group Dr. Afrah al-Zouba, participated in the meeting of WB Governors for the Middle East and North Africa region, held in Washington to discuss the implications of the current crisis in the region and the operational response of the WB Group.

She cited the deep humanitarian and economic repercussions of the regional crisis on the Republic of Yemen.
" Yemen is among the most affected and least capable countries to absorb shocks due to more than a decade of conflict, she stressed.
The crisis has further exacerbated the suffering of millions of Yemenis who rely on aid, deepened the child malnutrition crisis and weakened citizens' ability to access food, fuel, and medicine at affordable prices, she added.

Al-Zuba stated that the crisis has raised the costs of import and shipping in the Red Sea and Bab al-Mandeb and weakened the flow of expatriate remittances, which will increase pressure on the balance of payments.

The Minister called on the WB Group to qualify Yemen to fully benefit from crisis response tools, to stand by fragile and conflict-affected countries and to accelerate projects supporting job creation and institution building, as wells supporting the path of addressing sovereign debt in coordination with the International Monetary Fund.
