AL MAHRA –SABA
The speaker of the Yemeni parliament warned on Monday the war in the country will remain since the Houthi guerilla opts for violence and the language of death only.
In a meeting with the local government and representatives of all political stakeholders in the eastern Mahra province, Sultan al-Barakani said, "We will stay in war [since] we face a rebel guerilla that believes in violence only and in the language of death only."
He said the Houthi militia have failed the international, Saudi and Omani peace proposals consecutively. "We had counted on the Omani mediation given that some Houthi representatives hosted in Oman. We expected them (Houthis) to return the favor and accept the Omani mediation … and we ask them (the Omanis) to exert more efforts are the likeliest to bear fruits.
Without that, we have no choice left. We are waiting for a new UN envoy and he will come in need of time. We've had a first, second and third envoys and now we have a fourth. He will need more time to prepare himself as a fresh envoy and all that time passes at the expense of the Yemeni blood that runs everyday."
He said: "They've been blocking the opportunities of peace. To this day, we absolutely have no prospects of peace. I can't say we will have peace in two months, a year or two years. Because peace is not in our hands. It is in the hands of those who picked up the gun and seized the cannons and tanks considering that as their means to take control of Yemen and the Gulf region."
Al-Barakani warned that "the Houthi militia's expansionist intentions way beyond Yemen while some people regurgitate that any fall of Marib won't matter to them."
Al-Barakani said Yemen faces "two looming dangers: the Houthi military threat and the economic threat on equal levels.
