RIYADH-SABA
Yemen's Minister of Information has called upon the United Nations to pressure the Houthis into releasing hundreds of activists among them journalists the theocratic militia disappeared and jailed over the past years.
Attending a celebration of the International Radio Stations Day organized by the Sana'a Radio Station in Riyadh today, Muammar al-Eryani recalled the Houthi takeover of public and radio stations and abduction of journalists during the September 2014 coup and demanded the UN "to pressure for their unconditional release."
The minister said the rebel militia have turned the seized radios to sectarian platforms that rip apart Yemen's social fabric and legacy of coexistence that had existed for thousands of years.
He regretted that the militia has silenced all voices of dissent and intimidated many journalists into supporting its devastatingly extremist agenda.
