RIYADH-SABA
Foreign Minister Abdul-Malik al-Mekhlafi has said that while the government is keen to end the war, the Houthi rebels are determined to make commercial gains from the people's suffering.
Addressing a conference of foreign ministers of the Non-Aligned Movement in the Azerbaijani capital Baku on Thursday, he said:
"The government is keen to end the war and alleviate the suffering of the Yemeni people by working with the international community to mobilize aid resources, provide humanitarian assistance, facilitate access to relief materials, and improve services. On the other hand, the Houthi rebel militia are determined to make commercial gains from the people's suffering … by appropriating the resources of the state, withholding salaries from state employees, and establishing parallel economic institutions."
"I affirm to you that the humanitarian crisis that Yemen is experiencing is a direct result of the political situation; the Houthi militia's coup d'état against the government. However resources and assistance might be mobilized for Yemen, the only solution to its humanitarian crisis can come through the return to the negotiation table to end the state of coup and war in accordance with the three terms of reference that been unanimously agreed upon by all the Yemenis including the coupist themselves."
