President al-Alimi briefs Ambassadors of the countries sponsoring the political process on developments in the eastern governorates
[08/12/2025 05:51]

RIYADH - SABA
His Excellency President Dr. Rashad al-Alimi, Chairman of the Presidential Leadership Council (PLC), met today, Monday, with the Ambassadors of the countries sponsoring the political process in Yemen.

The President expressed deep gratitude to the countries sponsoring the political process for their supportive stances in support of the Yemeni people at different stages, stressing that Yemen's partnership with the international community is not merely a partnership for aid, but a shared responsibility in protecting the concept of the state, supporting its legitimate institutions, and preventing the entrenchment of parallel authority structures.

The Chairman of the PLC detailed the ambassadors on the recent developments in the eastern governorates, stating that the unilateral measures taken by the Southern Transitional Council (STC) constitute a blatant violation of the transitional phase references, a direct threat to the unity of security and military decision-making, an undermining of the legitimate government's authority and a serious threat to stability and the future of the entire political process.

The President warned of the serious economic repercussions of any disorder, especially in the governorates of Hadhramaut and al-Mahra, explaining that this could mean delays in paying employees' salaries, fuel shortages for power stations, exacerbation of the humanitarian crisis, the destruction of all economic reforms achieved and weakening donor confidence in the internationally recognized government.

President al-Alimi made it clear that one of the effective approaches to de-escalation is embodied in a unified, decisive and explicit international stance that rejects unilateral measures, affirms full commitment to the transitional phase frameworks and supports the legitimate government as the sole executive authority responsible for protecting the country’s national interests.

His Excellency also reiterated that the stance of the PLC is clear based on its earlier experiences: it does not provide political cover for any unilateral measures outside the state’s institutional framework, whenever sincere national, regional and international will is existing.

The Chairman of the PLC stressed that it is very important for Coalition countries' positions to be unified in supporting the internationally recognized government, in a way that protects the unity of state institutions and prevents the undermining of security and stability in the government-held governorates.

His Excellency stressed that the country and the people's living conditions can no longer bear opening more fronts of attrition and that the real battle will remain focused on restoring state institutions and eliminating the coup of the Iranian-backed Houthi terrorist militias.

The President affirmed that the PLC and the government are very keen to continue to deliver on the state's essential obligations towards its citizens and its regional and international partners, namely the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, whose continuous and immediate responses to the needs of the Yemeni people in various fields are greatly valued and highly appreciated.
President al-Alimi called on the international community to adopt a unified stance against any challenge to the government exclusive powers, to apply open pressure for the return of forces that came from outside Hadhramaut and al-Mahra governorates and to support the efforts of the state and local authorities in fulfilling their constitutional duties in protecting sovereign facilities, enhancing de-escalation efforts and preventing a recurrence of escalation.

The Chairman of the PLC stated that the Yemeni people and their government are capable of deterring any threat and protecting the legal standing of the state, warning that the collapse of state authority in Yemen would leave no stability for investment, neither in the south nor in the north, reiterating his call for collective responsibility to prevent the country from sliding further into fragmentation and chaos.

The Ambassadors of the countries sponsoring the political process in Yemen reiterated their full commitment to supporting the PLC, the government, the unity and stability of Yemen, as well as the integrity of its territory.

They also stated that it is very important to maintain the unity of the PLC and the government must continue to fulfill its commitments to the regional and international communities to ensure the continued support at all levels.

The Prime Minister Salem bin Braik and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Dr. Shaya Zindani were in attendance.
