Gold prices edged higher on Tuesday as investors awaited a series of U.S. labor market reports for fresh signals on the future path of U.S. interest rates.

Spot gold rose 0.2 percent to $4,059.81 per ounce.

Market participants are closely watching several U.S. employment reports, including the Job Openings and Labor Turnover Survey (JOLTS) due later on Tuesday, the ADP employment report on Wednesday, and the closely watched nonfarm payrolls report on Friday.

Among other precious metals, spot silver climbed 1.0 percent to $58.74 per ounce, platinum gained 1.2 percent to $1,646.59, and palladium also advanced 1.2 percent to $1,279.55 per ounce.
