Transport Minister Dr. Abdulsalam Hamid met with Director of International Technical Cooperation at the International Maritime Organization (IMO), José Matheickal, to discuss ways to enhance cooperation and coordination.
The meeting, held on the sidelines of the 2nd Maritime Industry Sustainability Conference 2025, focused on building capacities in marine environment protection, combating marine pollution, and ensuring maritime safety and security in ports and international shipping lanes.
The minister highlighted the dangers posed by the sinking of ships carrying chemicals and oils, which can cause significant damage to the marine environment and biodiversity. He emphasized the need for international support to help Yemen address these challenges.
The IMO official assured that the organization would do its utmost to support Yemen in building institutional and human capacities, and would work with the international community and donors to provide necessary equipment and resources.
