President al-Alimi receives UN's Envoy in Aden
[29/08/2024 06:08]

ADEN - SABA
His Excellency Dr. Rashad al-Alimi, Chairman of the Presidential Leadership Council (PLC) along with the PLC's Member Sheikh Othman Mujalli received today, Thursday. At al-Ma'shiq Palace in the interim capital Aden the Special Envoy of the UN Hans Grundberg.

Grundberg briefed President al-Alimi and Mujalli on the outcomes of his recent communications and consultations at national, regional and international levels and his priorities in the coming period to deescalate tension and revive the political process that Iran-backed Houthi militias defaulted.

The UN Envoy extended his sincere condolences to the President on the victims of the torrential rains and sweeping floods that a number of the Yemeni governorates have been subjected over the recent weeks.

He also highly appreciated the ongoing efforts of the PLC and the government to de-escalate the tension at all tracks and to deal responsibly with all proposals aiming to prevent the country from going back to the all-out war.

President al-Alimi reiterated the full support of the PLC and the government to the UN-led efforts to unleash a comprehensive political process based on the proposed road map suggested by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and backed by the Saudi brothers' good offices to mitigate the economic hardships that have been further worsen by the terrorist attacks of the Iran-allied Houthi militias on the oil facilities and international marine shipping lanes.

The President stressed that it is very important to keep national, regional and international attention on the Houthi militias' practices, including the grave violations of human rights and the militias' arbitrary measures against the Yemeni Airlines Company that will further exacerbate the Yemeni people humanitarian suffering and badly affect the company's assets and its fame.

The Chairman of the PLC pointed out to the Houthi militias' failed terrorist drone attack against Safer Oil Facility in Marib. He cited the incident as the most recent evidence that these militias are not a reliable peace partner, it is rather a scheme for destruction, repeatedly proved to make the militias backers' interests above the Yemeni peoples' interests.

The President underscored the importance of maintaining the international community's unity about the Yemeni cause. He stated that it is very important to listen to the Yemeni people's aspirations for stability and peace in accordance with the UN Security Council's resolutions, mainly the resolution 2216.
