Leadership Council chairman receives US ambassador

Chairman of the Presidential Leadership Council Dr. Rashad al-Alimi received on Tuesday the US Ambassador to Yemen Steven Fagin.

Talks went over the bilateral cooperation between the two friendly countries, developments in the Yemen and the region, and a number of issues of common interest.

Al-Alimi was briefed by the US ambassador on the development and humanitarian assistance programs the United States and its international agencies provide for Yemen, including assistance in rehabilitation of Yemen's Coast Guard forces, and efforts to combat terrorism, smuggling, and organized crime.

Al-Alimi stressed the importance of the donor community fulfilling their pledges within the Yemen humanitarian response plan and channeling funds through the Central Bank of Yemen, and the importance of international organizations and local partners hastening their moving of headquarters to the temporary capital Aden, and strictly adhering to the legal status of the Yemeni state as a UN member.

Al-Alimi acquainted the US Ambassador about local developments, including the economic and administrative reforms led by the Council and the government, and the efforts of Yemen's friends to launch a comprehensive political process in accordance with the terms of reference agreed upon nationally, regionally, and internationally.

In this context, he stressed the importance of supporting government reforms and its efforts to deter any threat to the legal status of the state, impose its control over the entire national territory, and secure international shipping lines and the vital facilities of the Yemeni people.
