The Yemeni Cultural Center in Cairo held on Tuesday a session to get media pundits to hear from a former captive in the Houthi custody about the rife human rights abuses and crimes that take place in the rebel militia's jails.
Jamal al-Maamari, who before his release was dubbed by Yemeni journalists as the dean of the abductees in Houthi jails, told the audience stales of torture and abuses he and inmates had gone through.
He said that there is currently "9700 abductees in the secret detention centers of the militia, 3,000 cases of enforced disappearance and 10,000 cases of brutal torture. 157 cases of torture.
He also cited the arrests and abduction of women and children and their detention in inappropriate places and subjection to violations that amounted to rape, away from the attention of human rights organizations.
