MANAMA-SABA

Bahrain has expressed full support for Saudi Arabia’s position and its efforts, through the Coalition to Support Legitimacy in Yemen, to support the Presidential Leadership Council and the legitimate Yemeni government in ending the Houthi coup, restoring the state and its institutions, eliminating the threat of terrorism, and reaching a comprehensive political settlement based on the three references.

In a statement carried by the Bahrain News Agency (BNA), the Bahraini Foreign Ministry strongly condemned the continued attacks by the Houthi militia against Saudi Arabia, including attacks targeting civilians and civilian and economic infrastructure, as well as what it described as attacks on the holy cities of Mecca and Medina.

The ministry said the attacks had targeted Riyadh and the cities of Abha, Khamis Mushait, Jazan, Najran, Taif and Yanbu, in addition to Saudi vessels in the southern Red Sea and the Bab al-Mandab Strait.

Bahrain reaffirmed its full solidarity with Saudi Arabia and support for all measures it takes to protect its security, sovereignty and the safety of its citizens and residents, exercising its inherent right to self-defense under Article 51 of the UN Charter.

It stressed that Saudi Arabia’s security is an integral part of the security of Bahrain and the Gulf Cooperation Council states under the Joint Defense Agreement.

The Bahraini Foreign Ministry also called on the UN Security Council, particularly its permanent members, to fulfill their responsibilities by putting an end to the attacks and threats to maritime navigation and energy supplies, and ensuring full implementation of relevant council resolutions, particularly resolutions 2216 and 2817, in a manner that safeguards regional and international peace and security.
