CAIRO – SABA
Yemen has participated in the 17th session of the Arab Ministerial Water Council in Cairo by a delegation led by Minister of Water and Environment Eng. Tawfiq al-Sharjabi.
In his address, al-Sharjabi called for an integrated Arab approach to help Yemen address water security challenges, protect water and sanitation services, rehabilitate infrastructure and strengthen national capacities.
He emphasized cooperation to tackle water scarcity, groundwater depletion and climate change.
He also urged greater Arab support for conflict-affected countries, investment in water infrastructure, and the development of a joint Arab mechanism for sharing water and agricultural data to support evidence-based decision-making.
Al-Sharjabi stressed that Arab water security is a shared responsibility requiring stronger partnerships and practical, sustainable solutions.
He also attended the opening of the 7th Arab Water Conference, held under the theme “Water in the Arab Region: Partnerships for Peace and Sustainable Development,” which focuses on regional water security, climate challenges, and sustainable water resource management.
