Rights Report: Houthi Crimes and Abuses Deepen Yemen's Humanitarian Crisis
[02/08/2026 06:17]
ADEN-SABA

The Yemen Women's Empowerment Foundation (YWEF) has released a specialized human rights report titled "The Internal Blockade: Houthi Militia Policies to Impoverish and Subjugate Yemenis," documenting systematic crimes and violations by the Houthi terrorist militia that have significantly worsened Yemen's humanitarian crisis.

According to the report, a copy of which was obtained by Saba, United Nations and international indicators show that 19.5 million Yemenis require humanitarian assistance and protection, while 17.1 million people are experiencing food insecurity. The report noted that this figure is expected to rise to 18.3 million during 2026.

It also said that 2.2 million children under the age of five are suffering from acute malnutrition, alongside 1.3 million pregnant and breastfeeding women, highlighting the growing scale of hunger and deteriorating living conditions across the country.

The report attributed the worsening crisis to a series of policies implemented by the Houthi militia, including banning the circulation of the newly issued national currency, depriving hundreds of thousands of public employees of their salaries, imposing taxes, levies, and internal customs duties, closing roads, and interfering with trade and fuel supplies.

It said these measures have driven up food and medicine prices, eroded purchasing power, expanded poverty, and forced millions of families to rely on humanitarian aid for survival.
