WASHINGTON-SABA
Yemeni Ambassador to the United States Jamila Raja held talks with US Assistant Secretary of State Donald Blome on the latest political and security developments in Yemen amid continued escalation by the Iran-backed Houthi militias.
Raja outlined developments on the ground and the advanced weapons and military capabilities supplied to the Houthis by the Iranian regime. She highlighted the resilience of Taiz residents and the cohesion of the popular resistance in confronting the Houthi project, describing Taiz as a symbol of national steadfastness and the Yemeni people's determination to restore the state and its institutions.
She also addressed Houthi violations and crimes against Yemenis, including the recruitment of children and their deployment to front lines, attacks on Maashiq Palace in Aden, Aden International Airport and Marib Governorate, as well as repeated assaults on civilian objects and vital facilities in Saudi Arabia. She said these attacks constituted flagrant violations of international humanitarian law and posed a direct threat to regional security and stability.
Raja stressed the importance of strengthening coordination and integrating regional and international efforts with those of the Yemeni government and its institutions to support efforts to restore the state, end the Houthi coup and counter the Iranian project threatening Yemen's security, regional stability and the safety of international waterways.
For his part, Blome expressed his country's condolences to the victims of the Houthi attack on Maashiq Palace in Aden. He said the United States was closely monitoring political and security developments in Yemen.
The US official condemned Houthi violations against the Yemeni people and attacks on civilian objects and vital facilities in Yemen and Saudi Arabia. He reaffirmed Washington's support for the Yemeni government in confronting Houthi threats and for efforts to mitigate the humanitarian consequences of the ongoing conflict.
