TAIZ - SABA
The Rasd Organization for Rights and Freedoms has documented 51 civilian casualties, including women and children, from Houthi shelling, sniper fire and attacks targeting residential neighborhoods and villages in Taiz Governorate between October 14 and 20.
In a statement received by the Yemeni News Agency (Saba), the organization said artillery and missile shelling, sniper fire and other Houthi attacks killed nine civilians, including three men and six women, and injured 42 others, comprising 18 men, 12 children and 12 women.
The organization noted that deliberate attacks against civilians or civilian objects may amount to war crimes requiring accountability. It stressed that protecting civilian lives is a legal and humanitarian obligation that cannot be delayed, adding that the continued loss of civilian lives in Taiz demands serious international action beyond statements of condemnation and towards practical and effective measures.
The Rasd Organization for Rights and Freedoms called on the United Nations and relevant international organizations to take urgent action to protect civilians and halt attacks against them, conduct independent and transparent investigations into the incidents, identify those responsible and hold them accountable under the law, ensure unimpeded access to humanitarian and medical assistance for those affected, and take effective measures to prevent further violations and ensure that perpetrators do not enjoy impunity.
