OTTAWA-SABA
Yemen's Ambassador to Canada Jamal al-Sallal met with Canada's Deputy Minister of International Development Cynthia Termorshuizen on Tuesday to discuss the government's recovery and economic reform priorities and ways to strengthen cooperation in humanitarian, development, and investment fields.
Al-Sallal praised Canada's humanitarian and development assistance to Yemen, describing Canada as one of the country's leading humanitarian partners. He expressed the government's aspiration for increased support, emphasizing the importance of gradually transitioning from humanitarian relief to recovery, sustainable development, and a long-term strategic partnership.
The ambassador outlined priority areas for enhanced cooperation, including food security, health, education, water and sanitation, early recovery and reconstruction, women's and youth empowerment, renewable energy, state institution capacity-building, and greater Canadian investment in promising sectors such as renewable energy, oil and gas, mining, agriculture, fisheries, ports, and logistics.
He noted that Yemen's strategic location and economic potential make support for the Yemeni government an investment in regional stability and international maritime security.
