MARIB-SABA
Marib Deputy Governor Dr. Abdrabuh Miftah held talks on Sunday with Executive Director of the Japanese NGO IVY, Yosuke Nagai, on the organization's future humanitarian and development activities in the governorate, including initiatives aimed at strengthening community resilience, peacebuilding, and post-conflict recovery in Yemen.
During the meeting, which was attended by Middle East Program Coordinator Yegumi Ito and Yemen Country Director Amjad al-Sharjabi, the two sides reviewed the organization's achievements in Marib over the past two years and explored opportunities to further expand its assistance.
IVY's programs have focused on supporting local peace efforts, sustainable development, rehabilitation and reintegration, as well as assisting returnees, people released after arbitrary detention by the Houthi militia, and communities affected by the conflict. Its activities have also included conditional cash assistance linked to health awareness sessions in the Al-Manin and Al-Rabwa displacement camps, in addition to projects helping reintegrate young people formerly associated with armed groups.
Miftah commended the organization's partnership with the local authority and expressed appreciation for Japan's continued humanitarian and development assistance to Marib, citing the recent provision of $5.3 million through the International Organization for Migration.
He urged IVY to broaden its support for local authorities preparing to receive detainees who were expected to be freed under a prisoner exchange agreement that collapsed after the Houthi militia withdrew shortly before its implementation.
