A meeting held on Sunday here snd chaired by Minister of Transport Mohsen al-Amri reviewed the procedures required for the approval of the Qana Port project in Shabwa Governorate.

The meeting, attended by the technical committee formed under Ministerial Decision No. 28 of 2026, examined the measures taken in accordance with the laws and regulations governing the establishment of ports and in line with the National Ports Strategy, which defines the mandates of commercial and specialized ports, as well as their operating and development mechanisms.

The committee also reviewed the project's previous phases, technical studies and designs, and its objectives, including improving public revenues, enhancing the efficiency of Yemeni ports and helping curb smuggling by regulating maritime and commercial activities within the approved legal framework.

The meeting further discussed the expansion project for Mukalla Port and ways to increase its operational capacity to accommodate the expected growth in trade, thereby supporting economic activity and improving services provided to investors and shipping companies.

Minister al-Amri stressed the importance of the committee carrying out its assigned tasks to complete the official and technical procedures necessary for approving the Qana Port project in accordance with the applicable legal and technical frameworks, in a manner that serves the national interest and supports development.

He emphasized that developing economic infrastructure and expanding commercial activity across the country's governorates are key pillars for increasing public revenues and creating a more attractive investment environment.

The minister also directed the committee to arrange a joint meeting with the leadership of the local authority in Shabwa Governorate, the Board of the Yemeni Arabian Sea Ports Corporation, and the Ministry's Tender Committee to review the procedures completed so far, discuss technical and administrative observations, and finalize the remaining requirements needed to move forward with the project's approval.
