ADEN - SABA
Finance Minister Marwan bin Ghanem held talks on Wednesday with Japanese Ambassador to Yemen Yoichi Nakashima on strengthening cooperation in support of the government's economic reform agenda and efforts to address mounting fiscal challenges.
The discussions centered on Yemen's strained economic and financial conditions, including pressures on public finances, declining state revenues, and the need to bolster the capacity of key revenue-generating institutions.
Bin Ghanem expressed appreciation for Japan's longstanding partnership with Yemen and its continued contribution to development and humanitarian programs. He paid particular tribute to Japanese support for customs modernization and capacity-building initiatives, while calling for broader cooperation in tax administration, institutional development, and government automation programs.
The minister also outlined measures being undertaken by the government to advance fiscal and structural reforms, describing them as essential to restoring economic stability. He briefed the ambassador on challenges posed by Yemen's external debt and stressed the importance of international backing for efforts to ease the country's debt burden.
