The Minister of Agriculture, Irrigation and Fisheries Salem al-Soqatri met today, Tuesday, with the Director-General of the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) Dr. Qu Dongyu, on the sidelines of the ministerial meeting of the 38th Session of the FAO Regional Conference for the Near East, held in Rome.

Al-Soqatari highlighted Yemen's pressing need for further interventions by FAO to help the government to cope with food insecurity challenge that has been exacerbated by the recent conflict in the region.

He also underlined the importance of moving from emergency support projects to the sustainable development ones.

The FAO Director-General stated that the FAO is interested in mobilizing the international support in order to secure the needed resources to finance its projects in Yemen in the field of sustainable development and to fund joint projects related to the Green Climate Fund.
