GENEVA-SABA
Yemen has affirmed that the Iran-backed Houthi militia poses a direct threat to regional peace and security and to international navigation, saying the group is a tool used to undermine Yemen’s sovereignty and stability, disrupt basic services, and obstruct the delivery of humanitarian assistance to those in need.
In a statement delivered by Deputy Minister of Human Rights Nabil Abdulhafeez during the general debate under Item Four at the 61st session of the United Nations Human Rights Council, Yemen reiterated its commitment to working with regional and international partners to strengthen security, stability, and human rights in Yemen and across the region.
Abdulhafeez said Yemen supports the statement delivered by the Arab Group and drew the council’s attention to the serious and repeated violations committed by the Houthi militia against the Yemeni people.
These include indiscriminate killings, torture, the forced recruitment of children, and attacks on civilians and humanitarian facilities—violations documented in reports issued by the United Nations and international human rights organizations.
Yemen also condemned Iranian interference in the internal affairs of states and its support for armed groups that commit serious abuses against their populations.
The statement denounced repeated attacks on vital infrastructure in Gulf and other Arab countries, including oil facilities, airports, and seaports, warning that such actions endanger civilians and risk escalating tensions across the region.
