RIYADH - SABA
Member of the Presidential Leadership Council Dr. Abdullah al-Alimi received Tuesday the Vice President of the International Crisis Group Richard Atwood.
He discussed with him developments in the situation in Yemen, international efforts aimed at ending the war and supporting the just and comprehensive peace process.
During the meeting, Dr. al-Alimi stressed that the intransigence of the terrorist Houthi militias and their continued receipt of military and logistical support from the Iranian regime constitute the most prominent obstacle to efforts to bring peace to Yemen, pointing out that the continued smuggling of Iranian weapons via ships, the latest of which was the shipments that were recently seized, is evidence of Tehran's intentions to fuel the conflict and threaten the security and stability of the region.
The member of the Presidential Leadership Council pointed to Iranian attempts to transfer drug manufacturing and smuggling activities to Yemeni territory after tightening the noose on its allies in Syria, warning of the danger of these practices to regional and societal security, and calling on the international community to take a firm stance against this aggressive behavior.
Dr. al-Alimi also reviewed the government's efforts to implement economic, financial and administrative reforms, enhance transparency and efficiency of resource management, and improve public services, which contributes to alleviating citizens' suffering and restoring confidence in national institutions.
For his part, the Vice President of the International Crisis Group affirmed the group's support for efforts to bring peace to Yemen, stressing the importance of the role played by the Presidential Leadership Council and the Yemeni government, and the group's keenness to continue working with regional and international partners to achieve peace and stability in Yemen and address the humanitarian and economic crises resulting from the war.
