Basuhaib discusses with UNICEF, international partners interventions to combat malnutrition

Deputy Minister of Planning and International Cooperation Dr. Nizar Basuhaib discussed with the Deputy Resident Representative of UNICEF in Yemen Mio Nemoto the organization's interventions to combat malnutrition and improve the health and nutritional status of children and mothers.

The two parties reviewed the directions of UNICEF-funded programmes for the coming year and its plan in the nutrition sector, in addition to the challenges facing the implementation of humanitarian and health projects, especially in the areas most affected by the humanitarian crisis, and the impact of reducing funding on food programmes, and ways to mitigate this by activating alternative programmes, including the cash assistance project provided through the Social Welfare Fund with funding from UNICEF Ways to enhance the emergency humanitarian response to confront natural disasters, most notably the rains and floods witnessed in a number of Yemeni regions, as a result of climate change.

Basuhaib appreciated the efforts and interventions of the organization over the past years, stressing the importance of continuing cooperation between the two parties in implementing emergency and sustainable interventions to address malnutrition, and increasing coordination between government agencies and international organizations to ensure the effectiveness and sustainability of interventions.

In another meeting, the Deputy Minister of Planning and International Cooperation discussed with the First Secretary at the Dutch Embassy, Yinta Feldman and the Director of the British Halo Trust Mara van der Kamp ways to enhance cooperation and coordination in the field of mine action and dealing with remnants of war.

The Deputy Minister of Planning and International Cooperation stressed the importance of the role played by international organizations and partners in supporting national efforts to get rid of mines and their remnants, due to their direct negative effects on the lives of civilians, restricting land use and disrupting development projects.

For their part, representatives of the Dutch Embassy and the Hello Trust renewed their commitment to supporting national programmes in this field.

They stressed importance of continuing coordination with the relevant Jordanian authorities to ensure that removal operations are carried out in accordance with the highest international standards and achieve the desired humanitarian and development goals.
