The Republic of Yemen has affirmed that the only way to achieve peace and stability in Yemen and the region lies in ending the Houthi coup and restoring the state.

It is a clear and established truth that true peace hinges on addressing the root causes of the Yemeni crisis and holding accountable the party obstructing efforts to establish peace and end the conflict.

This was stated in a statement by the Republic of Yemen before the Security Council during the open session on the situation in the Middle East (Yemen), delivered by Yemen's Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Ambassador Abdullah al-Saadi.

The statement emphasized that restoring peace is not limited to managing the crisis but requires genuine will and objective conditions to achieve it, preventing the Houthi militias from reestablishing themselves and their tyranny under any guise, and stopping the repetition of this conflict. It reiterated the Yemeni government's openness to all serious initiatives aimed at ending this war and addressing the humanitarian crisis.

The statement also renewed the commitment of the Presidential Leadership Council and the Yemeni government to a just and sustainable peace, in accordance with the agreed political solutions, led by the United Nations Security Council Resolution 2216, which serves as a roadmap for addressing the Yemeni crisis.

The Security Council and the international community were called upon to assume their responsibilities and take serious and firmer stances towards the Houthi militias, urging them to accept the option of peace and abandon the concept of divine right to rule the Yemenis. This group sees itself above others and treats peace as a means of maneuvering rather than a strategic choice benefiting the Yemeni people. The statement called for putting an end to their ongoing practices and terrorist actions that undermine security and stability in Yemen and the region, violating all international norms and agreements, and drying up their funding sources while curbing arms smuggling to these militias.

The statement highlighted that eleven years have passed since the Houthi terrorist militias’ coup against the state, national consensus, and the aspirations of the Yemeni people for security and stability. For eleven years, these militias, supported by the Iranian regime, have continued their destructive and escalatory approach, evading peace requirements and undermining all efforts and initiatives aimed at achieving it.

They show no concern for the humanitarian suffering of the Yemeni people or for Yemen's resources, which are subjected to systematic destruction.

They have turned civilians into fuel for their military adventures and committed various crimes and violations against Yemenis, including besieging cities and villages, kidnapping, forced disappearance, torture, killing, displacement, and the bombing of homes and places of worship in areas under their control in an attempt to break the will of Yemenis and subjugate them to their coup agenda and extremist ideologies.

The Houthi terrorist militias have also planted millions of landmines, recruited thousands of children to fight in wars, indoctrinated them with ideas of hatred and extremism, marking the largest recruitment operation in modern history. They have exacerbated poverty, unemployment, and internal displacement rates, turning Yemen into a platform for threatening and targeting international shipping lines in the Red Sea and the Bab el-Mandeb Strait, destabilizing the security and stability of the region and the world.

The statement from the Republic of Yemen also pointed to the systematic economic war waged by the militias against the Yemeni government and people, looting state institutions, extorting the private sector, imposing illegal levies on citizens and traders, seizing port revenues, taxes, and employee salaries, and plundering hundreds of billions of dollars from Yemen’s resources.

Meanwhile, millions of Yemenis live below the poverty line, facing hunger and food insecurity.

It confirmed that all of this is part of the Houthi militias' strategy to prolong the conflict, multiply humanitarian suffering, impose the agenda of their Iranian backers, and drag Yemen into total destruction.

The statement expressed the Yemeni government's strong condemnation of the Houthi militias’ storming of the premises of UNICEF, the World Food Program, and the United Nations Development Program, confiscating their property and assets.

It also strongly condemned the kidnapping of 21 UN staff members by the Houthi militias in one of the largest waves of arrests targeting UN personnel, adding them to their colleagues who have been detained since 2021, 2023, and 2024.

This represents a flagrant violation of international humanitarian law and a direct threat to the lives and safety of these employees and their families, undermining noble efforts to alleviate the worsening humanitarian situation.
