Meeting in Aden Discusses UNDP's Interventions in Addressing Climate Disasters

Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Water for Agricultural Production Sector, Engineer Abdulmalik Naji, met with the Director of the Integrated Water Resources Management Project at the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), Engineer Anmar Abdulwahed.

The meeting discussed UNDP's interventions in addressing climate disasters and ways to mitigate the damage caused by recent floods in Aden and Lahj. The discussion focused on the Integrated Water Resources Management project implemented by UNDP in the Tuban basin, funded by the German government.

The project includes activities such as rehabilitating dam gates and water barriers, irrigation channels, and constructing stone and gabion protections in 100 sites along the Tuban basin. The meeting emphasized the importance of accelerating the implementation of the remaining project interventions based on a technical report submitted by the ministry.

The possibility of increasing the project's intervention level to include maintenance of irrigation machinery in Lahj was also discussed to maximize the project's benefits and promote sustainable development for food security.
