Houthi militias blamed for 2,678 crimes of enforced disappearance over seven years—Report

The Yemeni Network for Rights and Freedoms (YNRF) reported about 2,678 cases of enforced disappearance against civilians, including 158 women and 137 children, committed by the Iranian-regime backed Houthi terrorist militias during the time from January 1, 2018, to April 30, 2025, in several governorates.

The network published a report on the International Day of the Victims of Enforced Disappearance, learned by the Yemeni News Agency (Saba) documented 689 cases of enforced disappearance involving labor groups, 209 political figures, 301 military personnel, 182 teachers, 74 activists, 93 students, 108 traders, 137 children, 118 social figures, 51 media professionals, 49 preachers and mosque speakers, 23 academics, 158 women, 52 lawyers, and 43 doctors.

According to the report about 1937 abductees were subjected to various types of physical and psychological torture in Houthi prisons among of them 117 children, 43 women and 89 elderly people. Some 476 abductees were subjected to the most severe and cruel types of torture leading to death among them 18 children, 23 women and 25 elderly people.

The YNRF reported that 56 abductees were killed in the prisons of the Houthi militias, while others committed suicide to get rid of the unbearable brutal torture. 79 abductees reported to be died in militias' prisons due to negligence and 31 of abductees from heart attacks.

Some 218 abductees who were tortured in Houthi prisons, including 26 children, 12 women and 49 elderly people suffered total and partial paralysis and others suffered from chronic diseases, memory loss and visual and hearing disabilities.

The network noted that the terrorist Houthi militias run about 641 prisons in the governorates under their control, including 368 official prisons and 273 secret prisons established by the Houthi militias after their coup d'état.
