Yemen calls on friends countries, international organizations, funds to support its efforts to face economic challenges
[12/08/2025 05:47]

NEW YORK - SABA
The government of Yemen has urged brotherly and friendly countries, along with international organizations and funds to support its efforts in these exceptional circumstances to confront economic and service challenges and achieve financial and institutional stability.

It emphasized that the current phase requires urgent enhancement of this support to enable it to consolidate gains and ensure the sustainability of recovery.

In a statement before the Security Council during the open session on the situation in the Middle East (Yemen), delivered by Yemen's Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Ambassador Abdullah al-Saadi, the Yemeni government confirmed that support is a fundamental pillar for overcoming the accumulated crises exacerbated by the Houthi terrorist attacks on oil export ports and the complete halt of exports, which led to a loss of about 70% of the state's public resources.

It highly valued the positions of its brothers in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates alongside the Yemeni people and government, as well as their ongoing interventions in development and humanitarian aspects, which have bolstered the factors of resilience and fulfillment of the government's essential commitments.

"Yemen today stands on the threshold of a difficult phase after eleven years of war waged by the Houthi terrorist militias against the state and its constitutional institutions, destroying the hopes and aspirations of a people yearning for security, stability, dignity, justice and equal citizenship, and the establishment of a civil state that befits its rich history and status in the region," said al-Saadi.

He added:"Despite the efforts made by the Presidential Leadership Council and the government to advance the peace process and positively engage with regional and international efforts and the United Nations' endeavors through its special envoy to Yemen to end the conflict, the Houthi militias continue to obstruct all these efforts, undermine any opportunities for peace, prolong the conflict and the cycle of violence, and plunge Yemen into an unprecedented economic and humanitarian crisis, jeopardizing security and stability in Yemen and the region."

The statement of the government delivered by al-Saadi noted that the government addressed the esteemed Security Council last month regarding the blatant interventions of the Iranian regime in Yemen and its flagrant and repeated violations of the United Nations Charter, international law, and relevant Security Council resolutions, including systematic violations of the sanctions regime imposed under Security Council Resolutions 2140 (2014) and 2216 (2015), and the continued smuggling of Iranian weapons to the Houthi militias, along with military, financial, and technical support.

It highlighted that recent months have seen the seizure of numerous shipments of weapons, devices, equipment and drones in Yemeni territorial waters and ports, heading to the Houthi militias, confirming ongoing financing and arming operations for these terrorist militias, which pose a serious threat to security in Yemen and regional and international security, clearly indicating the extent of direct Iranian interference in Yemeni affairs.

The Iranian regime is investing more in the Houthi militias as part of its expansionist project, aiming to implement its agenda to destabilize regional and international security, prolong the conflict in Yemen, hinder opportunities for a comprehensive political settlement, and exacerbate the suffering of the Yemeni people, transforming Yemeni land and territorial waters into a platform for threatening international navigation and undermining regional and international peace and security.

The Yemeni government once again called on the international community and this esteemed council to assume its responsibilities and ensure the implementation of its relevant decisions concerning Yemen, particularly Security Council Resolutions 2216 (2015) and 2140 (2014), and to take effective measures to deter the Iranian regime’s blatant interventions in Yemeni affairs and stop the smuggling of arms to the Houthi militias.

The government stated, "While we appreciate the efforts made to alleviate humanitarian suffering in Yemen, we urge the international community and the United Nations to enhance the support provided for humanitarian response in Yemen and to bridge the existing funding gap. In this context, we look forward to the convening of the international conference on food security in Yemen, under the auspices of the General Secretariat of the Gulf Cooperation Council, in October, which represents a crucial milestone to enhance cooperation with regional and international partners and develop a practical roadmap to confront food security challenges in Yemen."

The statement reiterated the commitment of the Presidential Leadership Council and the Yemeni government to the path of peace and support for all regional and international efforts and the initiatives of the Secretary-General’s special envoy to Yemen aimed at achieving comprehensive, just, and sustainable peace based on agreed political solution references, primarily Security Council Resolution 2216 (2015), and a commitment to developing a constructive strategic partnership with the regional and international community to ensure security, stability, and peace in Yemen and to counter threats and terrorist acts in international maritime passages and global trade.
