[02/06/2025 11:12]

KUWAIT - SABA
The Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Ministerial Council has renewed its full support for the Presidential Leadership Council, led by Dr. Rashad Mohammed al-Alimi, to achieve security and stability in Yemen and to reach a comprehensive political solution, in accordance with the Gulf Initiative and its executive mechanism, the outcomes of the Comprehensive National Dialogue Conference, and UN Security Council Resolution 2216.

The council also renewed support for ensuring Yemen's sovereignty, unity, territorial integrity, and independence.

In its final statement of the 164th session held today in Kuwait, the Ministerial Council welcomed the appointment of Salem Saleh bin Breik as Prime Minister, wishing him success in fulfilling his constitutional duties to achieve security, stability and development for the Yemeni people.

The Ministerial Council welcomed the continued sincere efforts made by Saudi Arabia and Oman, along with ongoing communications with all parties, to revive the political process, leading to a comprehensive and sustainable political solution in Yemen.

It emphasized the importance of the Houthis engaging positively with international and UN efforts aimed at ending the Yemeni crisis and seriously addressing peace initiatives and efforts to alleviate the suffering of the Yemeni people.

The Ministerial Council reiterated its support for the efforts of the United Nations and its Special Envoy to Yemen Hans Grundberg to achieve a comprehensive political solution based on the three references.

The Council also welcomed Oman’s announcement of a ceasefire aimed at protecting navigation and international trade, emphasizing the importance of de-escalation to maintain security and stability in the region and respecting maritime navigation rights in accordance with international law and the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea of 1982.

It condemned the continued foreign interventions in Yemen's internal affairs and the smuggling of military experts and weapons to Houthi militias, which is a blatant violation of UN Security Council Resolutions 2216, 2231 and 2624.

It reiterated its support for all efforts aimed at reaching a comprehensive political solution to the Yemeni crisis, ensuring security and stability for Yemen and the region.

The Ministerial Council praised the achievements of the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center and the humanitarian support provided by the Coordination Office for Relief and Humanitarian Assistance from the GCC to the Republic of Yemen, as well as the humanitarian and developmental assistance provided by all member states to Yemen. It highlighted the development projects and vital programs implemented by the Saudi Program for Development and Reconstruction of Yemen, which included 263 development projects and initiatives across seven key sectors: education, health, water, energy, transportation, agriculture, and fisheries, as well as building the capacities of government institutions, developmental programs, financial support for the Yemeni government budget, and support for salaries, operational expenses, and food security in Yemen.

The Council also commended the efforts of the Saudi project for demining (Masam), which has successfully cleared 493,256 landmines and unexploded ordnance, and has purified 66,860,348 square meters of land in Yemen that were littered with mines and unexploded munitions indiscriminately planted by Houthi militias, resulting in tragic casualties among innocent children, women, and the elderly.
