Minister of Local Administration, Hussein al-Aghbari discussed Monday with representatives from the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) mechanisms for mobilizing funding for programs and projects that support local authorities and their administrative units.
During the meeting, attended by Deputy Minister of Local Administration Maeen Mahmoud, Minister al-Aghbari emphasized the importance of implementing priority development programs and projects for the governorates aimed at reducing poverty and supporting local economic development, in accordance with allocated budgets and available resources.
He highlighted the need to benefit from experiences and best practices regarding governance, decentralization, and the development of resources for administrative units, in line with the Local Authority Law and its executive regulations.
Al-Aghbari pointed out several programs and projects that the ministry is working on which require funding to support local authorities, such as the Local Councils Development Fund backed by the UN Capital Development Fund, among other developmental and economic projects for administrative units.
For their part, UNDP representatives expressed their support for the ministry's approach to the developmental and economic mechanisms and programs for administrative units, emphasizing the importance of joint coordination and planning to implement these programs and projects.
They praised the ministry's pivotal role and the collaborative efforts with the UNDP.
