RIYADH - SABA
Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Dr. Shaya Zindani discussed with the American Ambassador to Yemen Stephen Fagin on Wednesday latest developments in Yemen, coinciding with the entry into force of the U.S. decision to classify Houthi militias as a foreign terrorist organization and the designation of several of its leaders as global terrorist entities.
The Foreign Minister reiterated the government's welcome of the classification decision, emphasizing its importance in weakening the terrorist Houthi militias and preventing them from obtaining weapons and funds, thereby drying up the sources of terrorism.
Minister Zindani also confirmed the government's readiness to enhance coordination and cooperation with the U.S. government to ensure the implementation of the decision and to mitigate any negative impacts on the humanitarian situation in Yemen.
For his part, the US diplomat reiterated his country's support for the Presidential Leadership Council and the Yemeni government, noting that this classification responds to the threats posed by the Houthi militias to American security, as well as to the stability of Yemen, the region, and the world.
He emphasized the importance of strengthening coordination and cooperation between the two friendly countries.
