The U.S. Department of the Treasury’s Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) announced today the designation of 21 individuals and entities, as well as the identification of one vessel, on the sanctions list for their involvement in transporting petroleum products, purchasing weapons and equipment and providing financial services to the Iran-backed Houthi terrorist militias.

Mayyun Organization reveals 45 civilian deaths over floods, calls for relief for impacted

Mayyun Organization for Human Rights has revealed that the rainy weather conditions witnessed in parts of the governorates of Taiz, Hodeidah and Hajjah since August 2 resulted in the death of 45 civilians and the injury of dozens.

The organization stated in a statement received by Yemen News Agency (Saba), that it monitored 15 deaths in the villages of Maqbanah District, west of Taiz Governorate, and 30 deaths, 5 missing persons, and the displacement of more than 500 families in Tihama, Hodeidah Governorate, as well as the death and injury of dozens, and impacting 3,571 families in the districts of Midi, Hairan, parts of Harad District, and the isolation of Bani Hassan in Abs District, Hajjah Governorate.

The organization called on the United Nations and its agencies working in Yemen, the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center, and the private sector in Yemen to take the initiative and provide relief to thousands of impacted families and alleviate the humanitarian suffering of tens of thousands of people, a large number of whom are displaced.

It stressed the need to quickly assess the human and material losses and provide the most urgent relief, shelter, food, and medical needs for the affected, many of whom have become homeless and joined the ranks of the displaced, while others have suffered significant losses in property, agricultural land, and livelihoods.

The organization also pointed out to the outbreak of the cholera epidemic, which is already widespread, and the inability to control the fevers that may occur in the impacted areas in a short period if the situation continues without effective medical interventions.
