NEW YORK-SABA
The Permanent Representative of Yemen to the United Nations in New York Ambassador Abdullah al-Sa'adi met Wednesday here with the Special Envoy of the UN Secretary-General for Yemen, Hans Grundberg.
During the meeting, Ambassador al-Sa'adi affirmed the commitment of the Presidential Council and the Yemeni government to support the efforts of the Special Envoy and the regional and international efforts to reach a comprehensive political settlement to the conflict in Yemen based on the three agreed-upon references and relevant Security Council resolutions.
Ambassador al-Sa'adi pointed out to Houthi militias' evasion of peace commitments by creating crises and escalating tensions in the Red Sea.
He emphasized the militias' continued obstinacy and lack of seriousness in engaging constructively with regional peace efforts and the efforts of the Special Envoy.
He stressed the need to exert pressure on the Houthi militias to halt their escalation in the Red Sea and push them towards the dialogue table to end the conflict and revive hope for a desired peace.
Ambassador al-Sa'adi also highlighted the Yemeni government's successive initiatives aimed at alleviating humanitarian suffering and facilitating the movement of citizens.
The most recent initiative was the unilateral opening of roads in Taiz and Marib. Meanwhile, the Houthi militias refuse to take similar steps to alleviate the suffering of the Yemeni people.
For his part, the UN envoy expressed his appreciation for the support provided by the Yemeni government to his efforts.
He commended the flexibility and concessions made by the government in order to alleviate suffering of Yemeni people.
He reiterated his commitment to continue working on bringing the Houthis back to the path of peace and abandoning the option of war, which will only bring more crises to the Yemeni people.
