The Republic of Yemen has expressed its hope that the detainees-exchange process between the government and Houthi militias can constitute an entrance to close this humanitarian file and build-up on it to achieve a comprehensive and fair peace all over Yemen.
The Permanent Representative of Yemen to the United Nations (UN) in New York Ambassador Abdullah Assa'adi delivered a statement today, Monday, at the Security Council in which he welcomed the implementation of the first phase of the detainees exchange process between the government and the Houthi militias which took place over three days under joint auspices of the UN and the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC).
Assa'adi said "The government highly appreciates the role of the Saudi-led Coalition in support of Legality in Yemen, the Office of the UN Special Envoy and the ICRC in helping to close this humanitarian file and facilitating the prisoners- exchange operations."
The Ambassador went on saying "Today, with the increasingly growing diplomatic momentum once again an optimistic spirit prevails in Yemen as the milieus have become prepared more than ever to achieve peace….,the Presidential Leadership Council reiterates its commitment to work for a sustainable peace, secure future that the Yemeni people deserve".
Assa'id continued, "The Yemeni government also commends the continuous efforts of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to alleviate human suffering and revive the peace path in Yemen as an extension of its initiative announced in March 2021"
He added" The government reaffirms its support for the efforts of brothers in the Kingdom and all regional and international good offices aiming to put an end of the Yemeni crisis and achieve comprehensive and sustainable peace that is based on the terms of reference for the agreed upon political solution including the GCC's Initiative and its implementation mechanism, the outcomes of the comprehensive National Dialogue Conference, and the UNSCRs in relevance namely 2216".
The Ambassador reaffirmed the government's keenness to end the suffering of the Yemeni people, deal constructively with the efforts of all brothers and friends that aim to establish a comprehensive ceasefire and launch of a comprehensive political process led by the UN through its special envoy to Yemen to make peace, end the conflict, restore state's institutions.
