Arab Parliament calls on UN to stop Houthi abuse of Yemen MPs
[23/07/2020 03:46]
CAIRO-SABA
The Arab Parliament has called on the United Nations to act swiftly to stop the Houthi abuses against members of the Yemeni parliament including the confiscation of their houses in the militant-controlled Sana'a.

The Speaker of the Arab Parliament Mishaal Al-Salami sent separate messages to the UN Secretary General, the president of the IPU, and the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights to afford protection for the Yemeni lawmakers whose relatives in Sana'a are evicted and their houses are being occupied on the account of their opposition to the Houthi coup of September 2014 and ensuing war.

Al-Salami totally rejected the rebel militia's terrorization acts against oppositionist MPs, journalists and other activists. He referred to the militia's systematic obstruction of peace and issuance of death sentences against political activists.

"What the Houthi militia are doing is a striking violation of the international humanitarian law and other UN resolutions and covenants," said Al-Salami in his messages.
