ADEN-SABA
Prime Minister Ahmed bin-Daghr said on Monday that the government - out of its responsibility toward the Somali and other refugees in all Yemeni territories – is encouraging their right to voluntary return home via the UN and IMO-sponsored repatriation programs, given the stabilization of situations in Somalia.
During his meeting today with AymanGharaibeh, UNHCR Representative to Yemen, bin-Daghr said: "Yemen has been and still a second home that hosts the Somalis displaced by the civil war in Somalia." But he said the continuous flow of illegal immigrants from the Horn of Africa is burdening the government amidst already hard circumstances endured in the government-run provinces.
He said the government "is doing its utmost to assist the refugees in their special camps."
Gharaibeh spoke highly of the government's assistance to refugees. "Despite the deteriorated situations because of the war, it (Yemen) still receives refugees." He said Yemen must be assisted in these difficult circumstances. Senior local relief aid officials attended the meeting.
