LAHJ-SABA
Lahj Governor Murad al-Halmi held talks on Tuesday with officials from the Danish Refugee Council (DRC) on scaling up humanitarian and development initiatives in the governorate through closer cooperation with the local authority.
Speaking during the meeting, al-Halmi stressed the need to move beyond limited, short-term interventions and instead prioritize integrated projects capable of delivering sustainable economic and social benefits, particularly in districts facing the greatest development challenges.
He advocated a partnership model in which the local authority and international organizations jointly contribute to strategic projects, arguing that coordinated investment would maximize development outcomes, improve public services, and ensure more efficient use of available resources.
The governor also highlighted the importance of directing assistance toward productive sectors that create jobs, strengthen livelihoods, and stimulate local economic growth, noting that Lahj's agricultural resources provide strong opportunities for long-term development.
Al-Halmi praised the Danish Refugee Council's contribution to easing humanitarian needs across the governorate and reaffirmed the local authority's readiness to facilitate the organization's activities.
