Presidential Leadership Council Member Abdulrahman al-Muharrami met on Monday with Japanese Ambassador to Yemen Yoichi Nakashima to discuss bilateral relations and opportunities to expand cooperation in development, economic recovery, and reconstruction efforts.
During the meeting, al-Muharrami expressed appreciation for Japan’s longstanding support for Yemen in the humanitarian and development sectors.
He commended the Japanese government’s contributions to projects aimed at improving essential services and strengthening state institutions, noting that such assistance has helped advance reform efforts and ease the burden on citizens.
Al-Muharrami emphasized the importance of broadening bilateral ties to encompass greater development and investment cooperation.
He highlighted the need for increased participation by Japanese companies and technical expertise in infrastructure, energy, and public service projects, describing such engagement as important to supporting economic recovery and enhancing service delivery.
The PLC member also reviewed recent developments in Yemen and outlined the government’s efforts to implement economic and administrative reforms, reinforce monetary stability, and improve the performance of public institutions. He stressed that these measures are critical to addressing current challenges and creating a foundation for sustainable development.
He further pointed to the noticeable improvement in security and overall stability in the temporary capital, Aden, attributing the progress to the coordinated efforts of military and security agencies.
Al-Muharrami said the improved environment has facilitated the implementation of development projects and strengthened the functioning of government and service institutions.
For his part, Ambassador Nakashima reaffirmed Japan’s commitment to continuing support for Yemen’s humanitarian and development needs.
He praised the government’s reform initiatives and efforts to strengthen stability, while expressing Japan’s readiness to deepen cooperation and partnership with the Yemeni government in support of recovery programs, improved public services, and sustainable development.
