GENEVA-SABA

The Ministry of Human Rights welcomed the UN Human Rights Council’s adoption by consensus, without a vote, of a draft resolution on providing technical assistance and capacity-building to Yemen in the field of human rights (A/HRC/63/L.33) under Agenda Item 10.

In a statement, the ministry said the adoption of the resolution reflects continued international support for the Yemeni government and its national institutions and strengthens efforts to protect human rights and build institutional capacity.

It said the consensus adoption was the result of diplomatic efforts and coordination between the ministry, Yemen’s Permanent Mission in Geneva, and brotherly and friendly countries Yemen.

The ministry expressed appreciation to Iraq, in its capacity as chair of the Arab Group, for submitting the draft resolution, as well as to Saudi Arabia, members of the core group, and all countries that sponsored and supported its adoption.

It stressed the importance of this support in assisting national institutions and enabling them to respond to the needs of Yemen’s human rights file.

The Ministry of Human Rights affirmed its commitment to following up on the implementation of the resolution in coordination with the Office of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights and relevant national institutions, ensuring that technical assistance and capacity-building programs are directed toward actual needs and strengthening institutions’ ability to protect rights and freedoms.
