Minister of Public Works and Roads Eng. Hussein al-Aqrbai met Sunday with the representative of the United Nations Office for Project Services (UNOPS) Juan Carlos.
The two parties discussed ways to enhance joint cooperation and review the progress of several projects funded by the office.
The meeting, attended by Deputy Minister Dr. Mohammed Thabet and ministry undersecretaries, addressed the level of implementation of capacity-building projects in the Road Maintenance Fund and the extent of their benefits.
It also discussed the launch of a pilot road asset assessment project in cooperation with the fund, which would contribute to improving the efficiency of road network management and maintenance.
The minister praised the technical and institutional support provided to the ministry and the Road Maintenance Fund, noting its positive impact on improving performance and developing work mechanisms.
He affirmed the ministry’s commitment to strengthening cooperation with international partners and stressed the importance of expediting the completion of ongoing projects while ensuring their compliance with approved technical specifications.
For his part, the UNOPS representative affirmed the office’s commitment to continuing support for infrastructure projects in the road sector and working to expand cooperation with the Ministry of Public Works and the Road Maintenance Fund, in a manner that enhances institutional sustainability and improves project management efficiency.
