The Minister of Water and Environment Engineer Tawfiq al-Sharjabi has directed the General Authority for Environmental Protection to conduct a field visit to the Dihamri (Ditwah) Protected Area in Socotra Governorate to study the phenomenon of shrimp mortality and determine its causes.
In a statement to (SABA) on Monday, Minister al-Sharjabi stressed the importance of carrying out environmental monitoring and assessment, collecting the necessary samples, and analyzing them in accordance with scientific standards, in order to identify the causes of the phenomenon and take appropriate remedial measures.
Minister al-Sharjabi emphasized the need to submit an urgent and detailed report on the results of the field visit, including the necessary recommendations to preserve the marine ecosystem within the reserve and protect fishery resources.
He reaffirmed the ministry’s commitment to safeguarding natural reserves and environmental resources in the Socotra Archipelago, as they represent a national and global environmental heritage.
