ADEN-SABA
Minister of State and Governor of Aden Abdulrahman Sheikh discussed on Sunday with a delegation from the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) ways to strengthen cooperation and expand support for sustainable humanitarian, service and development projects.
The meeting, attended by OCHA Deputy Head in Yemen Peter Ikayo and Deputy Representative of the UN Refugee Agency (UNHCR) Moses Kiperono, addressed the humanitarian situation resulting from the Houthi militia’s military escalation and attacks on civilian property and vital infrastructure. It also highlighted growing displacement, which has placed additional pressure on basic services and infrastructure in Aden.
Sheikh outlined the local authority’s efforts to address the impact of displacement, provide essential services and coordinate humanitarian interventions with government agencies and local and international organizations to meet displaced people’s urgent needs and alleviate their suffering.
He reaffirmed the local authority’s commitment to providing public services, protecting citizens, maintaining security and stability, and assisting people fleeing military escalation and Houthi practices in areas under militia control.
Sheikh stressed the need to expand humanitarian and development interventions and secure the necessary funding for relief and service programs to ensure a sustainable response that extends beyond emergency assistance.
OCHA and UNHCR representatives emphasized the importance of strengthening coordination with Aden’s local authority, integrating efforts to identify humanitarian priorities and directing interventions according to actual needs.
