Al-Zubaidi, US Ambassador discuss peace efforts, fighting terrorism in Yemen

Member of the Presidential Leadership Council (PLC) Maj. General Aidarous al-Zubaidi held talks today, Saturday, with the Ambassador of the United States to the Republic of Yemen Steven Fagin over the ongoing efforts to achieve peace and fight terrorism in Yemen.

At the beginning of the meeting Mr. Fagin offered his own and on behalf of his administration condolences to the Maj. General al-Zubaidi on the martyrdom of a group of the armed forces' heroes who were martyred in a terrorist attack targeted a military site of the Sustaining and Supporting troops in Abayn governorate two weeks ago.

He also reiterated his government's steady stance in support of fighting terrorism and enhancing security and stability in Yemen.

In this regard, al-Zubaidi affirmed that the armed forces are determined to keep on fighting terrorism and hunting after the extremist elements, taking on their hotbeds and eliminating them in order to establish security and stability in the government-held governorates, protect regional and international interests.

Maj. General al-Zubaidi called on the US, the regional and international community to support the efforts have been made by the armed forces to fight the terrorism and eliminate its sources.

The conversations, which the Chairman of the Consultations and Reconciliation Commission (CRC) Mohammed al-Ghaithi and the member of the CRC Dr. Nasser al-Khabaji engaged in, covered also the developments about the political situations and the efforts relating to the political process led by the UN in order to establish peace in our country.

In this context, Maj. General al-Zubaid reaffirmed the support of the PLC and the political forces included within its framework to all efforts aiming to end the war and re-establish security in the region.

He stressed that it is very important for the international community to shoulder its responsibility toward putting an end of the Houthis' terrorist attacks on the international shipping lanes in the Red Sea, Bab el-Mandeb and the Gulf of Aden as this is a pre-requisite for ensuring the success of the peace efforts. He noted that is impossible to reach a permanent peace in light of the Houthi terrorism in the Red Sea.

Maj. General al-Zubaidi reiterated his call on the sisterly and friendly countries to intensify support for the PLC and bolster its coherence. In this context, he put emphasize on the importance of issuing the regulatory bylaw for the PLC's action, activate the joint negotiator team in any upcoming negotiations.

The American Ambassador confirmed his government's stance in support of the PLC and its efforts aiming to unify the internal front against Houthi militia.

Mr. Fagin renewed the US administration's support for the ongoing efforts to bring the war to its end, establish fair and sustainable peace in Yemen.
