The Republic of Yemen chaired the General Assembly's meeting of the Arab Academy for Science, Technology, and Maritime Transport at the ministerial level for Arab transport ministers is being held here.
In his opening remarks, Minister of Transport Dr. Abdulsalam Humaid welcomed the participating delegations, acknowledging the efforts made by the Minister of Equipment and Transport of the Islamic Republic of Mauritania during his presidency of the previous 28th session of the General Assembly.
He praised the achievements of the General Assembly of the Arab Academy for Science and Technology.
The meeting addressed several topics related to the operation, activities, and developments of the General Assembly, arranging them at both the global and Arab levels. It also discussed topics presented by the General Assembly at the expert level along with necessary recommendations, leading to decisions that contribute to enhancing the quality of education and advancing it to the fourth generation level using artificial intelligence, thereby achieving sustainable development goals.
He stated, "The academy has achieved significant and outstanding successes in a short period as a leading institution in education. This year, it has attained a distinguished ranking in the Times Higher Education rankings for 2024 based on its success in achieving the United Nations sustainable development goals."
The Republic of Yemen also participated in the 37th session of the Council of Arab Transport Ministers, held at the headquarters of the Arab Academy for Science, Technology, and Maritime Transport in Alexandria, with a delegation headed by Minister of Transport Dr. Abdulsalam Humaid.
The meeting, which lasted for two days, involved several Arab transport ministers and senior officials from the ministries of transport in Arab countries, as well as presidents and directors of specialized Arab organizations and federations in transport and logistics.
They discussed ways to enhance Arab cooperation in transport and logistics, support efforts to develop transport infrastructure in the Arab region, and strengthen economic integration among member Arab states to achieve sustainable development goals.
The Minister of Transport, in his speech at the meeting, highlighted the efforts made under the leadership of the Executive Office in providing recommendations and facilitations for the council's work and reaching decisions that serve Arab economic integration.
He announced that the Republic of Yemen would sign two agreements: The first on organizing the transport of goods by road between Arab countries, and the second on the exemption from taxes and customs duties on activities and equipment for modified Arab air transport.
He affirmed that Yemen will strive to sign and ratify all other agreements in the future to serve common Arab interests.
Additionally, during his visit to the Arab Academy for Science and Technology, the Minister of Transport inspected Yemeni students studying there, emphasizing the ministry's commitment to alleviating the difficulties faced by students sent abroad for education.
