The Republic of Yemen joined, today, Tuesday, in the opening of the Fifty-Seventh Session of the Human Rights Council, held in Geneva, Switzerland.

The Permanent Representative of Yemen to the United Nations Office in Geneva Ambassador Dr. Ali Mujawar headed the Yemeni delegation to the gathering.

The first session devoted to recite the annual report by the High Commissioner on the human rights situation in all countries. He stressed that ending the Israeli war on Gaza Strip and preventing a regional war is an absolute and urgent priority.

The session touched upon the violations committed by the Houthi militias against UN and humanitarian workers, warning of their repercussions.

For a five-week period, the session is going to discuss reports submitted by the UN Secretariat, the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, human rights experts and other bodies addressing a matrix of important human rights issues in some 50 countries.

The Council will also hold 20 interactive discussions and study 32 draft resolutions, including one on technical assistance and capacity building for Yemen in the field of human rights under article 10th .
