MUKALLA-SABA
Presidential Leadership Council Member and Hadramout Governor Salem Ahmed al-Khanbashi discussed on Sunday with a delegation from the World Food Programme mechanisms for expanding humanitarian interventions and strengthening cooperation to support vulnerable communities across the governorate.

The meeting, attended by Hadramout Deputy Governor Hassan al-Jailani, brought together al-Khanbashi and WFP Deputy Country Director and Head of Field Operations Al-Rasheed Al-Hammad to review humanitarian and living conditions in the governorate and explore ways to enhance coordination between the local authority and the UN agency.

Discussions focused on broadening humanitarian assistance, improving services for the most vulnerable groups, and addressing the needs of displaced persons and refugees from the Horn of Africa. The two sides also reviewed efforts to strengthen food assistance and social protection programs targeting vulnerable households.

Al-Khanbashi stressed the importance of expanding WFP programs to reach a larger segment of the population, while giving particular attention to school feeding initiatives.

He underscored the role of school nutrition and kitchen programs in improving the learning environment and encouraging regular student attendance.

The PLC member reaffirmed the local authority’s commitment to providing all necessary support and facilitation to ensure the success of WFP projects and programs in Hadramout, helping ease the economic hardships faced by residents.

The meeting also emphasized the need to support livelihood initiatives, small-scale income-generating projects and productive families to promote self-reliance and improve household economic conditions.

Participants further highlighted the importance of engaging local partners and civil society organizations in implementing humanitarian and development programs to maximize impact and sustainability.
