RIYADH – SABA
Member of the Presidential Leadership Council Abdulrahman al-Mahrami held an extensive meeting on Thursday with European Union ambassadors led by the Head of the EU Delegation Patrick Simonnet.
He discussed with them areas of bilateral cooperation and prospects for expanding the existing partnership, particularly in supporting government reform efforts, enhancing development funding programs, humanitarian interventions, and institutional capacity building.
The meeting reviewed developments in the peace process amid the continued intransigence of the Houthi terrorist militias and their lack of genuine commitment to engaging in the political process.
Al-Mahrami stressed the importance of increasing international pressure on the militias to push them toward peace.
Al-Mahrami called on the European Union to designate the Houthi militias as a terrorist organization, emphasizing that the option of peace remains available but depends on the seriousness of the other party.
He stated: "We are ready for peace through the political process, and our armed forces are at the highest level of readiness to maintain security and stability and protect national gains."
The meeting also underscored the importance of securing international waterways and discussed ways to support regional and international efforts in this vital area, considering it a cornerstone for ensuring the stability of global trade routes and maritime security in the region.
On the security front, the participants discussed recent developments in the interim capital, Aden, and the liberated governorates.
Al-Mahrami highlighted the tangible improvement in security performance as a result of ongoing efforts to strengthen stability and combat various threats.
Regarding economic and administrative matters, the meeting stressed the need to support government reform efforts in a way that alleviates citizens’ suffering and improves basic services.
The meeting concluded by emphasizing the importance of South-South dialogue as a key pathway to achieving justice for the Southern Cause and enhancing consensus among various parties. Participants also praised the role of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in hosting this dialogue and its continued support for efforts aimed at bringing viewpoints closer together and promoting regional stability.
