Presidential Leadership Council member, Major General Aidarus al-Zubaidi, conducted an inspection visit to the Ministry of Water and Environment on Wednesday to review projects implemented to enhance water resources.
During the visit, Major General al-Zubaidi held a meeting with the ministry's leadership and staff, where he received a detailed presentation from Deputy Minister of Water and Environment, Mujahid bin Afarar, and several undersecretaries.
The presentation covered the ministry's efforts and those of its various agencies, as well as ongoing projects to bolster water resources and rehabilitate water network infrastructure in the governorates.
It also addressed the plans and strategies being developed by the Water Resources Authority and the General Authority for Rural Water Projects to improve water supplies and transition to renewable energy systems in the water sector.
Major General al-Zubaidi was also briefed on the ministry's efforts in environmental protection and the projects implemented in this area, most notably the completion of the Emergency Center for Disaster Risk Reduction and Climate Change.
He was further informed about joint plans with international partners to begin implementing desalination projects to address the water scarcity crisis, particularly in coastal cities hosting large numbers of internally displaced persons.
At the end of the visit, Major General Al-Zubaidi directed the ministry leadership to quickly implement special projects to purify drinking water in the governorates of Al-Dhali’ and Lahj from fluoride.
